Kaspersky Lab's Total Space Security is the perfect security solution for the Malteser Germany.

Protected Systems:
3,300 Workstations as ThinClients, Notebooks, File Servers, Mail Servers, Computer Center

Implemented Software:
Kaspersky Total Space Security

Malteser Germany is well acquainted with viruses: when a person is not feeling well, it must act quickly and reliably. Malteser Germany performs indispensable services including emergency medical care, sponsoring hospitals and assistance to the elderly.

However, when its own computer network is attacked by a virus, Malteser Germany must rely on external help. A malfunction would be disastrous and would have fatal consequences: internal communication would completely break down and the Malteser Germany would become incapable of providing essential services.

The Problem:

The antivirus solutions used up to now were not only too expensive but also caused technical problems because update files were too large and could not be distributed to all of the notebooks.

Therefore a new solution was sought which prompted much deliberation as to which company would prove to be the best from the vast array of IT security providers.

The main problem with almost all tested anti-virus products was that an area-wide roll-out on desktops, notebooks and servers was not possible. In addition, Malteser Germany's local desktops serve mainly as ThinClients for the configuration of an ICA connection to Citrix farms. Therefore the new virus protection must not utilize too many resources.

The Solution:

In the end, Total Space Security from Kaspersky Lab was chosen, the most comprehensive solution of the company’s business product line: Open Space Security. The most particular thing about the Kaspersky solution was that it was able to be centrally installed and administered via the Administration Kit. This meant that the Kaspersky client could be completely distributed to all systems without any difficulties. In addition, the highly productive anti-virus program offered reliable protection at a fair price. Around 3,000 workstations are now currently in use and are being maintained by SOCURA GmbH, the IT service provider of the Maltese Hospital Service in Germany.

Conclusion:

David Wester, from Project Management of SOCURA GmbH, was happy to note that because of “the resource-saving Anti-Virus solution from Kaspersky Lab, there was no need to invest in updating hardware“. In fact, the solution from Kaspersky Lab proved to be ideal for Malteser Germany's network environment and also provided economic advantages: “By using Kaspersky Software we could finally get rid of our virus protection arrangement and work only with a single system. This saves us hardware resources and administrative time,” states Wester. “The Kaspersky solution enabled us to conduct a migration to a new virus protection system without new investment in our infrastructure, and we now have central management of security for the Data Centre and all 300 sites in Germany. This saves a lot of money – and nerves!” Kaspersky Total Space Security protects the Malteser Germany network against viruses, hackers and spam at all levels. It protects the mail and data servers and isolates infected workstations immediately.
